In Memory of Barry Wayne Willoughby October 12, 1968 ~ January 23, 2025 (age 56)
Barry Wayne Willoughby, age 56, of Troy, OH passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, in Arizona after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born on October 12, 1968, in Troy to Barry William Willoughby and the late Wilma Sue Reed Willoughby. Barry is survived by his wife of 32 years: Julie Johnston Willoughby; sons: Justin (Bailey) Willoughby of Tipp City, Zane Willoughby (Makenzie Dietz) of Troy and Grant Willoughby (Jenna Stockslager) of Tipp City; granddaughter and apple of his eye: Josie Willoughby; sister and brother-in-law: Penny and Bill Johnson of West Milton; mother-in-law: Colleen Johnston of Troy; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Jeff and Michele Johnston of Troy; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law: Gary Johnston.
Barry was a 1987 graduate of Troy High School and a 1997 graduate of University of Dayton. He received his Professional Engineer License in 2002 and was a member of NETA (International Electrical Testing Association).
Barry was a visionary leader, mentor, and friend who transformed the electrical industry and countless lives. As a 4th-generation in the electrical field, he founded Power Solutions Group in 2005, growing it from two employees to a global company. He most recently started High Power Products, where his boys will continue his legacy.
While the boys were growing up, he made sure to be an integral part of their lives by coaching football, baseball and wrestling. He loved being outdoors fishing, hunting or boating and floating in Lake Keowee, his favorite spot on earth. He was a big sports fan, especially Ohio State football, UD basketball, the Bengals and most recently the Reds and Colorado Buffaloes. For fun and relaxation, you could find him driving a tractor, planting food for the deer, chopping firewood for his Count Rumford fireplace and driving fun, fast cars.
Barry never knew a stranger, his smile and laughter lit up the room. Barry’s true legacy lies in the people he inspired, the opportunities he created, and the lives he changed. His passion, leadership, and kindness will never be forgotten. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00PM on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Ginghamsburg Church in Tipp City. The family will receive friends from 2:00-6:00 PM prior to the service at the church.
