Oral Gallium Maltolate is an active formulation of gallium, a drug previously approved by the FDA in intravenous form (gallium nitrate for injection). The intravenous form, however, required continuous IV administration for 5-7 days. Oral GaM, on the other hand, has a different anti-tumor mechanism in the way it is absorbed in the body. It mimics the role of iron that is needed for tumor cells to grow. Ultimately, the tumor cells consume gallium, not iron, which interferes with iron-dependent cancer cell functions, growth, and proliferation. Thus far GaM has been extremely well tolerated by patients and it can be taken in the comfort of home.
We helped get an expanded access program for this treatment started, but could only cover part of the costs. We need your help to cover more of the costs so more patients can get access to this promising treatment! 100% of donations made on this page will go toward this expanded access program - while these funds are needed.
After the program is completed, any remaining funds will be used for other research projects!
