JD Heaton

In Memory of JD Heaton

June 30, 1951 - June 16, 2026

JD Heaton , age 74, passed away peacefully at his home on June 16, 2026, surrounded by the family who loved him so dearly. A lifelong resident of Salt Lake City, Utah, JD was born on June 30, 1951, to Max and Garda Heaton. He was a proud alum of the University of Utah and remained a dedicated fan throughout his life, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on the Utes.

JD was a dedicated public servant, spending 30 years working for the Utah State Tax Commission. He brought the same work ethic, integrity, and steady presence that defined his personal life. He cultivated and cherished many lifelong friendships throughout his career. To know JD was to know true kindness. He spent his entire life in the Salt Lake valley, building a reputation as someone who was always friendly, genuinely warm, and welcoming to everyone he crossed paths with. He possessed a rare and beautiful gift: he made everyone he met feel genuinely good just to be around him. His presence was a comfort, and his easygoing, compassionate nature left a lasting mark on his community and everyone who had the privilege of calling him a friend.

Above all else, JD was a devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen, who was the center of his world. He is also survived by his brothers, Larry (Connie) and Doug (Susan). He leaves behind a proud legacy through his children: Brig (Amy), Adam (Lindsey), Sarah (John), Megan (Lance), Monica (Josh), Melanie (Russell), and Zachary. He was also the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.

JD was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Garda, his sister, Janet, and his brother, Max. His warmth, his smile, and the genuine goodness he brought into the world will be deeply missed but never forgotten by his family and friends. Service Information
