Sounds very promising. It is rare to get a complete response in recurrent gbm
Scary alert... if you are getting any IV, look at the label and make sure it is what it should be.
This is great news! This drug is in clinical trials for GBMs. We do not yet know if it works or not, but if the GBM trial shows good results, it can be used off label immediately. This is another reason EVERYONE here should participate in our brain tumor virtual trial. This is a registry of brain tumor patients, the treatments they take and the outcome. IF we had enough people participating, we would already know the answer of if it helps for GBMs, and people would be able to use it now. For details and to join, go to virtualtrials.com and click on Virtual trial
From our friedns at the IBTA. There is a good summary of what happened at the recent SNO meeting.
There are now over 150 centers certified to use Optune, including some of the best in the world, now making it much easier to find a center close to you
I love projects like this - those that challenge the current thinking. It may open up a ne target not only for treatments but for diagostics.
Sounds like an interesting drug for brain tumors but it also looks like this company doesn'[t have the resources to develop it. Hopefully another company will come along and partner with them to develop the brain tumor version.
This was one of my favorite conferences. It was for MDs, not patients, but advanced patients will be able to understand most of it. If you are new to the world of brain tumors, start off with the lectures from our 11/12/2013 patient conference. After watching them, you will be able to understand a lot of what is going on in this new conference.
The videos work in Internet Explorer and Chrome now, but not firefox. I am working on that. Let me know if you have trouble with any other browsers.
This is the 13th project we funded this year! This one is very exciting - a new drug - F10 which has a strong anti-gbm effect but has trouble getting into the brain, combined with a new way of delivering drugs: a gel implanted at the time of surgery which slowly released the drug only in the area of tumor cells.
I always thought there was a link. Too many times I heard of multiple brain tumors in 1 family for it to be a coincidnece.
This is amazing - that the FDA has moved so quickly. The data from this trial was released less than 3 weeks ago and the FDA has already acted on it.
(As far as I know) This was the first time in history that the FDA allowed a brain tumor trial to stop the control group and move them into the active treatment group because the results were so good in the control group that it is unethical to continue a contril group!
This is one of the most exciting concepts... see this video: virtualtrials.com/video2011.cfm for details on how it works. Basically they start out with a general vaccine against the most common targets on the tumor. They then do a complete genetic profiling of the tumor. Using that information, they construct a cocktail using about 5 of the 72 vaccines they already made to specific targets, using the ones your tumor expresses the most.. When it is ready, they stop the general vaccine and start this new cocktail which is individualized for your tumor.
We are funding part of the USA trial of it!
We just released the 9th edition of our guide. We went over every page and made it easier to read, fixed a few errors, and added a lot of new material!
It is available for free from our website at virtualtrials.com/faq as a downloadable e-book. You can also order a bound copy for free. Brain tumor centers may order bulk copies for free.
It's a shame that the brain tumor patients have to not only fight a terrible disease but have to worry about the expenses involved.. We are having a similiar problem here in the USA with the new treatments.
Nice video about the vaccine.. We were one of the first supporters of Dr Liau's immunotherapy program!
This is my thoughts on the exciting news from SNO this week!
There was a lot of talk about this at the SNO meeting. Looks interesting. Might be another tool to try for the cocktail approach I mention in my blog!
This is a new way to transport antibodies across the blood brain barrier. They say it is for Alzheimer's disease but it looks like it could be adapted to work for brain tumors!
Quality of life IS the most important factor and has taken a back seat to other measures of success for too long. In our brain tumor virtual trial project, we try to rank treatments based on not only how long people live but also how well they live. I feel that living 10 years with poor QOL is not as important as living 5 years with high QOL.
