Re: Contact your Senators and Representative Within the Next Week in Support of Hill Visits and Increased Funding for Cancer Research

AACR and other cancer groups and advocates will be making visits to Capitol Hill in the first several weeks of May to deliver the message of support for increased funding for cancer research.
To help reinforce our message during this period, your call or e-mail letter to your Senators and Representative can have a significant impact.
- The President's proposed budget called for a $310 million cut to the National Institutes of Health and an $11 million cut to the National Cancer Institute for FY 2008.
- Both the House and the Senate have passed budgets that could provide for unspecified increases in funding for the NIH and the NCI.
- As the Congress moves into the appropriations process - where specific amounts of funding are allocated to individual committees and subcommittees - the cancer community must make its voice heard to push for a 6.7% increase for the NIH and NCI for FY 2008.
ACTION REQUESTED
By Wednesday, May 9, 2007, please:
Send an e-mail letter or call your Senators and Representative to urge them to support a 6.7% increase in funding for the NIH and NCI.
To call: You can reach your Senators and Representative by telephone by calling (202) 224-3121 and asking for their offices. Or to find their individual office numbers, go to www.senate.gov or www.house.gov. Then ask to speak to the Health Legislative Assistant and deliver your message.
