Here are some of the activities scheduled for the Awareness Week (21-27 October) but there are numerous others organised for the period in the run-up to the Week …
Frances Tse, who lost her sister to a Gliomatosis Cerebri brain tumour, has organised an Awareness Week walk on Saturday 27 October along stages 1-3 of the Hong Kong (walking) Trail. Depending on how many supporters participate Frances hopes they will achieve the equivalent of walking around the island of Hong Kong
On Friday 26 October during the Awareness Week the Gerry and Nancy Pencer Brain Tumor Centre at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto will have an Open House and a presentation with the clever title of “Laughing Matters: Jest for the Health of It”…
On Thursday 25 October the Dutch group hersentumor.nl has organised a walk in The Hague for children between 4 and 12 years old and on 27 October several Dutch fitness schools will arrange walks to raise awareness …
Mike Logsdon from the National Brain Tumor Foundation (NBTF), based in San Francisco, will be arranging for the mileage to be collected from his organisation’s Angel Adventure Walks in the upcoming weeks …
US singer, songwriter and survivor David M Bailey, who has allowed the IBTA to use his song “Keep on Walking” for the World Walk promotion, will be visiting the UK during the Awareness Week to raise awareness about brain tumors …
Organisers of the Have a Chance walk across the Brooklyn Bridge (NY) on Sunday 28 October are arranging to link their walk with the Walk Around the World for Brain Tumors. Last year they attracted 2,200 walkers …
The Canberra Hospital in Australia has agreed to hold a foyer display promoting the local ACT Brain Tumour Network during the Awareness Week …
The IBTA Awareness Week brochure will be downloadable via the Mobile Event Assistant Service (mobile or cell phone) at the forthcoming European Cancer Conference (ECCO 14) at Barcelona, which is expected to attract 12,000 participants. IBTA secretary Kathy Oliver (UK) will speak about the World Walk and Awareness Week at the associated Patients’ Forum …
Dr Rakesh Jalali from our supporting organisation the Brain Tumour Foundation of India is planning to hold an awareness-raising activity in Mumbai during October …
On 21 October, the first day of the Awareness Week, there is to be a concert in the Civic Hall in Stratford-upon-Avon (UK). It is the final day of a Music Festival. Part of the proceeds will go to Brain Tumour UK. Organiser Angela Deacon writes that the second half of the concert “will be stirring marching music - for obvious reasons!” …
George Plym, President of the WNC Brain Tumor Support group in North Carolina, and his colleagues will undertake a walk around a lake at their Survivors' Picnic on 20 September and donate their mileage to the World Walk. Funds raised will be donated to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation of the United States …
Lynn Park, Clinical Nurse Specialist from Newcastle General Hospital (UK), advises that they will have a stand in the Regional Neurosciences Centre and another at the Northern Centre for Cancer Treatment during the Awareness Week containing patient information on brain tumours and help that can be sought locally …
The IBTA promotional brochure and poster for the World Walk and Awareness Week will be printed in the Catalan language for distribution at the Barcelona cancer conference, in addition to the Spanish edition. A Dutch-language version of the poster has also been prepared.
