Ashburn, VA.— The Brad Kaminsky Foundation for Brain Tumor Research is inviting the community to join the “Grey Ribbon Crusade” and help fund brain tumor research by attending the 7^th Annual “Heroes of Hope” Golf Tournament, Silent Auction and Broadway Themed Awards Dinner. The event will be held Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Lansdowne Resort. 144 golfers will participate in a best ball format on the Greg Norman Course sponsored by many local businesses including title sponsors, Infinitive, Eastern’s Automotive, Southern Real Estate and Stage 2 Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations. Lunch is provided by the Outback Steakhouse.  Hole in One contests, In the Circle Contests and tickets to the Broadway themed awards dinner, (including live pianist and dance floor) are included in the $200 donation fee. Those not wishing to golf, can attend the dinner alone for a $75 donation. The shotgun start for golf is at 1:30pm and the dinner begins at 6:30 pm in the Lansdowne Ballroom.

This year the Silent Auction has over 100 great items all donated from local businesses as well as from around the country. Items include Coach K autographed Duke Basketball, Washington Capitols Autographed puck, Washington Redskins Autographed mini football helmet, as well as great items for children, local restaurant gift certificates, artwork, jewelry and more. There is never a registration fee required to attend the auction. The public is invited to stop by the Lansdowne Resort Ballroom Foyer between the hours of 2pm and 6pm on April 26^th and peruse the Silent Auction items. “This is a wonderful opportunity to get a great bargain and support a great cause. 100% of the winning bids will be donated directly to brain tumor research.” Said Brad Kaminsky Foundation Founder, Lisa Kaminsky-Millar.

An often forgotten disease, brain tumors are the leading cause of solid tumor death in children, and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men under the age of 39. Lisa Kaminsky-Millar, Ashuburn resident and founder of the non-profit organization  The Brad Kaminsky Foundation for Brain Tumor Research (TBKF) learned of the devastating effects of brain tumors when her brother, Brad Kaminsky, was diagnosed with a glioblastoma multiforme brain tumor in 1999. Seven years after his death, The Brad Kaminsky Foundation has raised over $275,000 for their cause, yet Ms. Kaminsky-Millar claims it is only the beginning. “I want to do for Brain Tumor Research what the Susan G. Komen Foundation did for Breast Cancer Research.” Ms. Kaminsky-Millar has partnered with Stage 2, a local Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations Firm to launch the “Heroes of Hope” initiative at the annual charity event. “Sue Schuster, the major equity partner of Stage 2 was extremely kind to offer her services to assist our foundation in launching this awareness and branding campaign. We are so grateful and excited to unify the brain tumor community and create the powerful voice that I know exists” said Lisa Kaminsky-Millar.

Last year’s event featured a special section called “Taylor’s Corner” in which special silent auction items were available for purchase with proceeds benefitting Ashburn resident and 2 year old, neuroblastoma survivor, Taylor Love. This year Kaminsky-Millar wants the community to know that there will once again be “Taylor’s Corner” to support Taylor Love and the Band of Parents that are fighting daily to find a cure for neuroblastoma, a cancer that arises in the sympathetic nervous system. There will also additional ways to support community members affected by cancer, through a raffle and a collection of items, so that baskets can be created and distributed the week after the event to those cancer warriors in the area. Ms. Kaminsky-Millar would like for people to bring non perishable items, games, coloring books, crayons, snacks, fruits and the like to the Lansdowne Resort Ballroom Foyer from 2pm-6pm on April 26^th for the creation of these baskets.

TBKF is a 501 (c) (3) not for profit public charity founded in 2000 to raise awareness of brain tumors and funds for research. In the Spring of 2002, TBKF launched its first annual Heroes of Hope Golf Tournament to benefit the Brain Tumor Center at Duke University. With the monies raised at last year’s event, TBKF has crossed the quarter million mark in funds donated strictly for research to find a cure.

About the Heroes of Hope: Launching in April 2008, the Heroes of Hope initiative seeks to create power in the drive for funding towards brain tumor research by inviting the public and interested sponsors to “Join the Gray Ribbon Crusade.” The initiative will offer the turnkey opportunities to unite behind the cause, and increased visibility through a strong national brand.
