Have A Chance Walk To Fight Brain Tumors

September 28, 2008. The event, which is open to walkers of all ages, is a 5-kilometer

walk that starts and finishes at Battery Park in lower Manhattan.

Over the past two years the event has seen the participation of over 4,000 walkers

and volunteers and raised nearly $2 million to help find a cure. Additional details,

registration information and details on how Walk proceeds fund research and patient

support can be found on the new and improved Walk website:

will take place in Manhattan on Sunday,

According to Eric Roth, President of Have a Chance, “The cure rate for brain cancer

is significantly lower than that for many other types of cancer. Have a Chance was

founded to provide a networking for families struggling for answers and the most

innovative therapies. We started the walk three years ago to elevate the fight against

brain tumors to a more national spotlight, and bring us one step closer to a world less

affected by this disease through significant fundraising efforts.”

Dennis and Arlene Roth founded the Have A Chance organization in 2001 after their

son was diagnosed with a brain tumor. It was created to provide support to those

affected by brain tumors by connecting afflicted families with each other, doctors,

pertinent information and direction for treatments and research.

Brain tumors are among the most aggressive forms of cancer, yet their treatment

gets some of the least federal funding. According to the Brain Tumor Society, each

year more than 220,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with a primary or

metastatic brain tumor. Brain metastases account for 20 percent of all cancer deaths

each year in the United States.
