Friday morning December 19, 2008, ABC’s Good Morning America will feature a profile about “Notes Left Behind: 135 Days with Elena” (soft cover, 288 pages, ISBN 978-0-9817264-5-8), a book about a 6-year-old girl with brain cancer. Released just last week, the book has already achieved both local and national recognition for its heart-wrenching stories of hope and inspiration as told from the eyes of Elena Desserich’s mother and father to their younger daughter, Gracie, too young to remember the experiences with her older sister. Among other memories the book recounts Elena’s passion for artwork, her painting which was the subject of two museum exhibitions and the notes that she hid daily around the house to be found after her death just 255 days later. More than just a book about cancer, it is also a book about living and the reflection of her parents who find that often children can be our biggest heroes.
The book can be purchased on the foundation’s website, on amazon.com and through Barnes and Nobles booksellers. A portion of the proceeds of the book will be donated to The Cure Starts Now Cancer Non-Profit Foundation (www.thecurestartsnow.org), a charity inspired by the young girl that now funds cancer research nationwide.
