The Mike Overall Golf Classic to be held June 21, 2010
The Michael Overall Benefit Fund will be hosting a special fundraising golf tournament for Michael Overall at the Idylwild Golf Club in Sour Lake, Texas. Take part in making a difference on this special day of golf.
Beaumont, Texas June 1, 2010: Nothing is better than playing golf on a hot Texas summer day except to play golf and impact the life of a friend at the same time. That is exactly what the Mike Overall Golf Classic is all about. Although you may not know Mike personally, you may have a family member or another friend that has been affected by cancer. The associated medical and personal expenses are especially high when an event such as this comes along unexpectedly.
On Memorial Day Weekend 2009, Mike Overall, lifelong Southeast Texas and Beaumont resident, was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme. Immediately he was admitted for surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. Surgery was followed by a regiment of radiation and chemotherapy with rehabilitation work that continues Mike’s path to recovery.
Mike, a 36 year employee of DuPont Corp. of Beaumont, enjoyed his work and was always involved in the community. He has been involved with the South Texas State Fair since 1999, and if you have visited that or other surrounding festivals in the area you might have come in contact with Mike. He and his wife Helen operated a family concession business called “Big Wheel” Concessions that often featured “Fried Green Tomatoes” and more frequently “Chicken Fried Bacon” He also has a passion for BBQ and took pride in winning Best Brisket and other cooking honors at local and surrounding fairs and cook offs.
Mike and Helen are members of St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Beaumont and are both proud of the support from their family and community.
