Los Angeles Goes Grey on November 4, 2012
Locals Support Brain Tumor Awareness at the Heroes of Hope Race for Brain Tumor Research
October 22, 2012 Playa Del Rey, CA – Locals from all over the Los Angeles area will Go Grey in support of brain tumor awareness on Sunday, November 4, 2012 in Playa Del Rey at the 5th Annual Heroes of Hope Race for Brain Tumor Research. The race supports pediatric and adult brain tumor research at UCLA, Cedars-Sinai and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Two Manhattan Beach children, who have been battling brain tumors, have supported the race and have worked very hard in raising funds for cutting edge research at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Many other brain tumor survivors will be in attendance as well as Neurosurgery staff from UCLA, Cedars-Sinai and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Over $250,000 has been donated to research from the past races. “Every year, we hope it is the last year we have to raise awareness and funds for this debilitating and often fatal disease. The event offers an amazing day of hope and remembrance; we hope all those impacted by brain tumors will do their part in raising awareness. “ Said race organizer, Lisa Millar, who lost her brother, Brad Kaminsky, over 11 years ago.
Brain tumors are the leading cause of solid tumor death in children and the leading cause of cancer death in men under the age of 39. Furthermore 20% of all cancers will spread to the brain. Brain tumors are difficult to treat due to their location and they can cause symptoms affecting one’s entire being; motor function, speech, eyesight, personality, hearing to name a few. The 5th Annual Heroes of Hope Race for Brain Tumor Research takes place on Sunday 11/4/12 at Dockweiler State Beach in Playa Del Rey, Los Angeles, CA. Even if you do not live in the Los Angeles area, you can sign up to walk and receive a tech tee shirt or make a donation to support much needed pediatric and adult brain tumor research.
Besides those impacted by brain tumors, also in attendance will be medical professionals, athletes and expo vendors. Many pediatric patients will be walking in the Fun Run and running the 5K and 10K. There will be plenty of activities for children, including air brush tattoos, face painting and the UCLA mascot Joe Bruin will join us to cheer everyone along. All children completing the fun run will receive a special award. This is a day of fun and Hope for all, with ocean views. Participants can run or walk the chip timed 5k, 10k or kids fun run or just enjoy the Expo. This years race is lovingly dedicated to all the angels taken too soon...and a few very special ones who have passed in 2012.
