Voices Against Brain Cancer Hosts Contest on Facebook to Recognize Brain Cancer Scientists and Social Workers
 
Voices Against Brain Cancer, an NGO supporting innovative brain cancer research, holds an award contest on Facebook to recognize brain cancer scientists and social workers that have made significant strides in finding a cure.
 
New York, NY— Voices Against Brain Cancer (VABC)announced that they are hosting the 2012 VABC Awards – an online contest on their Facebook page that will  award a grant to one neuro oncologist and one social worker that has made significant achievements in the fight against brain cancer.
 
Voices Against Brain Cancer will award two finalists, one neuro oncologist and one social worker, with grants.  The neuro oncologist’s institution or place of research will receive a $10,000 grant earmarked for Brain Cancer research and the social worker’s place of work will receive a $5,000 grant for a Brain Cancer support program. Between now and December 30th, VABC is inviting fansto nominate a scientist or a social worker that has helped them in some way or made an impact in brain cancer research.  In order to nominate a candidate, Facebook users must “like” the VABC Facebook page and then make their submission according to contest rules.
 
VABC stated that they will pick a group of finalists from those nominated, and fans can vote on their first choice for neuro oncologist and social worker from Jan. 8th - Jan. 14th.  The winners will be announced on January 15th, and will be recognized at the 2013 Annual Sounding Off For A Cure Benefit Concert in New York City.
 
Mario Lichtenstein, Founder of VABC , said “Brain cancer is affecting more and more people each day. It’s fulfilling to be able to reward the scientists and the social workers responsible for finding cures and making things more manageable for cancer patients.”
                         
VABC has a wide variety of initiatives in place for brain cancer research, awareness and support. The organization’s research grants fund cutting-edge research programs that will have a monumental impact on the diagnosis and treatment of brain cancer. VABC currently funds research at several esteemed institutions such as Brookhaven National Laboratory, Cleveland Clinic, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Harvard, John Hopkins, Memorial Sloan-Kettering and Yale, to name a few.
 
VABC's mission is to find a cure for brain cancer by advancing scientific research, increasing awareness within the medical community and supporting patients, their families and caregivers afflicted with this devastating disease.
