SAN DIEGO GOES “OVER THE EDGE” FOR BRAIN CANCER RESEARCH
Superheroes from the worlds of business, sports and media to rappel down San Diego’s tallest building to save lives
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (August 13, 2013) – Summertime is the season for superheroes. While the Man of Steel is saving the Earth from destruction on the big-screen, real life superheroes are signing up to rappel down San Diego’s tallest building to wipeout one of mankind’s deadliest diseases: brain cancer.
Registration is now open for Over the Edge for Brain Cancer. On November 2 and 3, exceptional leaders from the worlds of business, sports and media will rappel down from the 40th floor of the picturesque Manchester Grand Hyatt – San Diego’s tallest waterfront building. Proceeds will benefit Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2 ) and fund San Diego-based brain cancer research.
“Brain cancer is one of the most challenging and underfunded diseases,” said Max Wallace, CEO of ABC2. “Sometimes it takes extreme measures to make extreme impact. Supporters of Over the Edge for Brain Cancer are real life superheroes with courage and determination to help save the lives of brain cancer patients. ”
The two-day event springs into action with VIP/Media Day on Saturday, November 2 from 1–5 p.m. An extraordinary group of brain cancer avengers, including CEOs, sports stars and media celebrities will rappel down the Manchester Grand Hyatt. VIP rappellers from San Diego’s brain tumor research community will include: Max Wallace, CEO of ABC2, Jennifer Brusstar, CEO of the Tug McGraw Foundation and Dr. Bob Carter, Chief of Neurosurgery as UCSD Medical Center. The fearless rappellers will celebrate their feats of daring at the “Liquid Courage” reception from 6-8 p.m.
The main event is Sunday, November 3, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., featuring 50 brave “Edgers” rappelling as individuals, “Toss the Boss” teams and “Superheroes” (rappelling in honor of a young brain cancer patient). Spectators and supporters are invited to gather on the pool deck of the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego to cheer on their favorite “Edger” while enjoying high-energy entertainment, tasty food and delicious beverages. For those not brave enough to take the leap but still interested in supporting the cause, there will be a special “Chicken Coop” participation option available.
ABC2’s “Fantastic Four“ partners include: The Beer For Brains Foundation, the Manchester Grand Hyatt, Over The Edge and The Tug McGraw Foundation. The fundraising minimum commitment for an individual is $1,500, “Toss the Boss Edgers” - $2,500 and “Superhero Edgers” - $3,500. All participants must be 16 by the event date and weigh no more than 300 pounds.
