Al's Comment:

 I would like to thanks all of the volunteers and participants in our "Natioanl Walk To End Brain Tumors" who made this possible, as well as the donors to our organization and the families that named us for memorial donations.

Musella Foundation awards 7 brain tumor research grants!

• $25,000 to Dr.Joshua Allen at Oncoceutics for project "Clinical Evaluation of DRD5 as a Predictive Biomarker of Response to the selective DRD2 antagonist ONC201". This project will look for biomarkers to try to predict which patients would be helped by their new drug, ONC201.
   
• $5,000 to the Central Brain Tumor Registry of the USA to enable them to compile statistics on brain tumors.
   
• $25,000 to Dr. Neadu at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, for the project "Defining molecular mechanisms of resistance to Glioblastoma (GBM) immunity using a novel CRISPR/Cas9 in vivo loss-of-function screening platform". This is a completely new way to screen for the genes involved.
   
• $25,000 to Dr Okada, at UCSF, for the project: "Targeting the glioma immune environment by creating tertiary lymphoid organs", completely new concept of creating new lymphoid organs in the brain to enhance the immune response.
   
• $50,000 to Dr. Renfrow, at Wake Forest University, for the project "Targeting Hypoxia Inducible Factors in Gliomas". This will test a drug approved for kidney cancer in a mouse model to Glioblastoma. If successful, it will quickly lead to a clinical trial and since it is already approved, can help patients in the very near future.
   
• $50,000 to Dr Schwartz at Hackensack University Hospital, for the project "Potentiating radiation therapy of GBM with telmisartan and immune checkpoint inhibitors". This project will test the combinations of 2 checkpoint inhibitors and telmisartan, along with radiation, in a mouse model of glioblastoma. All of these drugs are approved for other diseases so if successful, can quickly lead to a clinical trial and become quickly available.
   
• $25,000 to Dr Srendi at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago for the project "Qualification of the PLK4 inhibitor CFI-400945 for future clinical trials on pediatric brain tumors: moving from the bench to the bedside". This project will test an experimental drug that is being developed for other cancers to see if it could work on pediatric brain tumor patients, with an emphasis on atypical teratoid/rhabdoid (AR/RT) tumors.
