Musella Foundation awards 7 brain tumor research grants!

 

Hewlett, NY 6/13/2018 - The Musella Foundation announced that it has awarded $225,000  in 7 brain tumor research grants.  These funds come from our “National Walk To End Brain Tumors” 5k events and donations to our organization.  We thank the many volunteers and donors that made this possible. Hopefully, these projects will quickly make a meaningful difference in the fight against brain tumors!

 

These grants include:

  • $25,000 to Dr. Eric Thompson for the project: Oncolytic Poliovirus Immunotherapy for Pediatric Medulloblastoma.
  • $25,000 to Dr. Karisa Schreck for the project: Evaluating the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics response, and profile of acquired resistance to trametinib and dabrafenib in BRAF-V600E mutated recurrent gliomas.
  • $25,000 to Dr. Michael J. Ciesielski for the project: Elucidating a novel invasion mechanism present in glioma associated mesenchymal like stem cells leading to tumor progression.
  • $50,000 to Dr. Mildred Acevedo-Duncan, at University of South Florida, Tampa for the project: ICA-1 treatment for Glioblastoma and Medulloblastoma
  • $25,000 to Dr. Henry M. Smilowitz, at University of Connecticut Health Center, for the project: : Can iodine nanoparticle enhanced radiation therapy increase the efficacy of temozolomide therapy? A preclinical study.
  • $50,000 to Dr. Roel Verhaak, at The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine, for the project: Targeting ribonucleotide reductase for the treatment of glioblastoma
  • $25,000 to Sophie Taylor, (PhD Student), at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Neurosurgery, for the project: Targeting the actin polymerization pathway for improved treatment of glioblastoma multiforme

 

 

This brings the total number of brain tumor research grant funded by the Musella Foundation to 118 for a total of $3.6 million!
