A friend of children with brain tumors, children’s book writer and publisher, Marcia Stankard, has an award winning Christmas book about kindness and the magic of giving entitled The Spriitelees: A Christmas Tale About Kindness. The book includes a kindness activity to encourage children to model kind behavior. Stankard felt that she needed to demonstrate her own commitment to this way of being, and is donating a portion of all proceeds to children’s brain tumor research, specifically JPA research through the Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation in Maryland. For the book’s first year and this first print run, the donation is 100% of her profits, or $5 per book ordered through her website. Her inspiration for this donation is a four year son of a close friend who was diagnosed at age 2 and has received two years of chemotherapy to keep his JPA tumor from growing.
