CANCER BENEFIT ALBUM RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS
HOLLYWOOD MUSIC AWARD FOR HUMANITARIANISM
Unique Compilation Inspires Independent Recording Industry To Action
BROOKLYN, NY – October 31, 2007 – On November 28th, 2007 the Hollywood FAME Awards will honor recording artist Matthew Zachary, founder of the I'm Too Young For This! Cancer Foundation (i[2]y),with the 2007 Humanitarian Of The Year Award in recognition of the organization's new compilation CD benefiting young adults affected by cancer.
The namesake album–I'm Too Young For This!–features 21 original tracks composed by young adult Indie recording artists who have been directly affected by cancer, either through their own personal diagnosis or that of a loved one, most notably Grammy-nominated musicians Kevin Hearn (Barenaked Ladies), Cindy Bullens and legendary new age pianist Suzanne Ciani. The album's thematic diversity reflects that of its artists, each of whom shares a uniquely inspiring personal journey through their art.
"I wanted to create something radically different than other cancer benefit CDs," says Matthew Zachary, 12-year young adult cancer survivor and Founder and Executive Director of i[2]y. "Instead of simply slapping a pink ribbon on an existing compilation of songs by random artists, this project has deeper meaning and purpose to not only raise awareness for our mission but to fulfill it simultaneously."
The Hollywood FAME Awards (formerly the LA Music Awards) was founded in 1991 by veteran music industry producer Alfred Bowman, at the wishes of the late Bill Gazzarri, to help unify the local voices of Independent music in Hollywood. It has become a quintessential staple of the Independent music scene.
"I've been in the industry for over 30 years and never have I come across an album that so touched my soul," says Bowman. "It has transformed the way I think about the power of music and clearly deserves all of the accolade and acclaim that the humanitarian award brings with it. Kudos to Matthew."
I'm Too Young For This!is the second in a library series of music projects i[2]y has released since 2006. A third and fourth compilation are in the works, as are national benefit concert festivals scheduled to feature and provide expose to the growing i[2]y catalog of young adult musicians affected by cancer.
