In Memory of Les Poweska
February 14, 1974 - November 21, 2024It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and son, Les Poweska, who left us on November 21, 2024 after a long battle with an aggressive and rare brain cancer. Born on February 14, 1974, long before it became a Valentine Day, Les lived a life on his own terms and till the very end, he brightened everybody's days with his humor. He started his education in Poland and continued in New York City where he discovered a passion for IT. He worked for several corporations where he was well respected for his expertise and kindness. He loved what he did and went back to work for a year while fighting the disease. He wanted to keep contributing to the team he was so proud to be a part of and ceasing his work life came with a lot of sadness. Les and I met in 2006, got married in 2008, moved to Virginia in 2011 and welcomed our little baby girl, Julia, in 2013. Words cannot describe the love he had for us and as many of you said, how proud of us he was... Julia was the center of his Universe. Our life changed completely after the first brain tumor was discovered in August 2020, followed by the second brain tumor and a gliosarcoma diagnosis in February 2021. Together, we fought this terminal disease with passion trying many unconventional treatments over the years. Even though the last couple of months were very cruel and the disease won at the end, he was surrounded by so much love from Family and Friends. He appreciated each and one of you that were present in his life. He loved till the end and will be loved forever by those who carry him in their hearts. Those who knew him will always remember his uniqueness, kindness, witty sense of humor and sarcasm, love for history and science, his passion for WW1 and a positive but realistic outlook on life and his strong will to live. In his memory, we are reminded of importance of love, family, doctor check-ups (as he reminded many of you) and cherishing the moments we have together. Les leaves behind a legacy of life fully lived and a spirit of love that will continue to guide us. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a foundation that was dear to our hearts: Musella Foundation for Brain Tumor Research & Information, Co-Payment Assistance Fund. Additional Memorial Services will be held at Parafia sw. Stanislawa Biskupa i Meczennika (101 E 7th Street, New York, NY 10009) and at Cmentarz Stalowa Wola (Poland). Dates for both services will be shared at a later time. " |
